We are told in parsha Eikev (Devarim 10:20) “Him you shall serve”.  This is the commandment that requires us to pray to Hashem. The Gemara sites a B’raisa that the pious would spend an hour in meditation before prayer, and hour in prayer and an hour in meditation following prayer. If they did this for three prayers per day how many hours did they spend a day doing things other than meditation and prayer? (Brochos 32b)

3 x 3 = 9

24 – 9 = 15 hours
