In Bamidbar (15:38) we are instructed to put tzitzis on the corners of all of our four cornered garments. Each of the four corners has set of four strings. Each of the four strings is folded over to make 8 hanging strings. Each set of 8 hanging strings is tied into 5 knots. In between each of the knots are windings. In between the 1st and 2nd knot there are 7 windings. In between the 2nd and 3rd knot there are 8 windings. In between the 3rd and 4th knot there are 11 windings. And in between the 4th and 5th knot there are 13 windings.
On the whole garment what is the total number of hanging strings, knots and windings?
8 hanging strings
Total for each corner 53
